因陀羅

因陀羅
(因陀羅, 因陀罗)
Indra, [lang id =1028]因坻; [lang id =1028]因提; [lang id =1028]因提梨; [lang id =1028]因達羅; [lang id =1028]天帝; [lang id =1028]天主帝; [lang id =1028]帝釋天; originally a god of the atmosphere, i. e. of thunder and rain; idem Śakra; his symbol is the (sa) vajra, or thunderbolt, hence he is the [lang id =1028]金剛手; he became 'lord of the gods of the sky', 'regent of the east quarter', 'popularly chief after Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Śiva, '(M.W.); in Buddhism he represents the secular power, and is inferior to a Buddhist saint. Cf. [lang id =1028]忉利 and [lang id =1028]印.
